ATL is one of the US's largest international hubs. Fewer than seven airports in the US have more international flights than ATL.

Since the dated link above, ATL -- DL specifically -- has grown its international route network substantially.

I dislike transiting ATL and am no fan of DL's "loyalty" program, but ATL is way more of an international airport by US standards than all but a handful of US airports.

I'd do AB for travel connecting US with Germany and then something else connecting with ATL.
