you can be assured you will not get cash from UA and no compensation for lost work time. You may get some kind of future travel voucher at best and that's not for sure.

cancelling is an option. While understanding the disappoint, don't let the disappointment spoil the trip / flight. It will still be a nice flight compared the way most people travel.
