Yes, you could have asked for TCP (To Complete Party), provided her ticket was similar to your ticket. I guess it's worth a call to the Gold line, it is a Gold perk of which you seemed to be unaware, and it may get you a refund. It's not that well advertised, if you're looking for a line to spin.
