Choosing seats together with separate bookings
I have a booking with adults and children separately (adults are awards, children paid with cash).
Seems I cannot check in online the children, as there is no adult in the booking and I cannot add an adult when doing the online check-in. As I was at the airport ~20 hrs before the flight, I asked Customer service to choose seats together, which they did. We could not do a real checkin at that time as it was too early. When we checked in the next day to my surprise the seats were moved and none of us were sitting together, even the 2 children on one PNR. So I had to beg at checkin and got lucky.
Any advice on what to do to make my life easier for the return? I'd prefer not to pay to choose seats in advance (4 tickets, 2 legs gets a bit too much), but I'm not sure I can get what I want even if I pay to choose seats.
