I agree and this is probably why no explanation was given.
If I was one of the people that paid for these E+ seats (in advance - the proper way) , and I thought the the F/A's were taking it upon themselves to be hero's, I'd be writing somebody, something, and demanding a refund.
These upgrading's, if done improperly, would be ripping off other paying passengers and also the company.
But then again, perhaps it was for W&B and none of this matters except that I usually hear an explanation from either the captain or the F/A as to the purpose of the musical chair experience.
