Flying IAD <--> MEX in May and I was hoping for an upgrade as a Platinum. I booked on DL.com and both flights are coded DL and showing "upgrade eligible". Over the weekend I got an automated call from Optiontown to upgrade to first for "up to 75%" off. So I went online and plugged in my details and was offered an $80 per segment upgrade that will clear anywhere from 3 days to 5 hours before the flight. With that kind of deal out there I'm thinking FC may fill up before I get a freebie upgrade. So I'm debating just paying the $80 to have a better chance. I'm guessing no one out there has been faced with this conundrum before, but I thought I'd put it out there.
I am making a related inquiry on the
Using Optiontown on Aeromexico thread over on the 'Other North and South American Airlines' forum, but I wanted to cover my bases by checking with DL frequent flyers.
My base fare is $10 less than the cost of upgrading. If I didn't have a possibility of a Platinum upgrade I'd spring for the $160 in a heartbeat. I'm just not sure if AM tends to fill up their cabins with their own elites and Optiontown upgraders. Obviously some people on this thread have scored. I'm not sure how new this Optiontown service is.
