Oh man, a widebody or p.s.-like flight would be amazing. I'd start taking red-eyes again.

Typically agree, although the SFO-BOS I was on this past Monday (to be fair, late afternoon flight that got in at 1 AM) had only 3 people not clear left on the list! But yes, I typically see upgrade lists 40+ deep.
