On April 14, the UA819 IAD-EZE 9:05 PM flight turned around after 90 minutes due to weather radar failure. We were informed of the problem, and United was prepared for us at the gate when we finally landed. It took a while, as we were in a holding pattern until the plane had used up enough fuel. Something about the landing weight.

At 1 AM on the 15th, there were 3 lines open. One for Global, first and business, and two lines - for people with last names A-L and M-Z. There was also a rep giving out water and soft drinks and snacks.

A new flight was scheduled for 1 PM.

People on revenue tickets received hotel and taxi vouchers, and 3 $7 food vouchers.

In general I would say, that the service was as good as you can get. UA did a great job of keeping us informed, and everyone took it in stride. The only problem was the automated hotel booking system that they started using has some bugs. The voucher had the name Comfort Inn, but no address or telephone number to show which Comfort Inn. Just what you need at 2 AM in the morning.

On today's flight we had the same crew. The radar had been replaced, and we were told to go to the appreciation web page, where we could choose 17500 miles, a domestic voucher of $300, or a 20% off on a o/w or return flight. Not bad choices, but not really anything for me, as being based in Denmark I only use United to travel internationally, I do not save up United miles, and the coupon has to be used within a year and the discount applies only to the base fare, and not to any taxes, fees or surcharges.
