I presume it is the BA flight, not the AA flight, that you are worried about?

On BA OW Sapphire can select seats for everyone on the booking from any point after the booking is made. Only exception is exit row seats (if that is applicable - not so for CW and there are no gold reserved seats in that cabin).

Not sure why you would therefore need to change to your BA number, unless it is to select exit row seats.
