Even with their railpasses, it is virtually impossible to get a refund from them.
If your railpasses are lost, they (RailEurope), they want to see that you have purchased a new set of tickets to replace them, and made a local police report, and they want to see purchased return airtickets to show that you originated and returned or said dates. Free award tickets apparently do not count.
After losing the French railpasses, I decided not to travel and wanted to claim after having done all of the above.. but Raileurope said that since I didn't purchase the new tickets, no refund.
Buyers beware..
