I always book my outbound as soon as the booking window opens (US is a bit more than 330 days - I think 334) with a dummy return date (put outbound on hold for 24+ hours then book the dummy return); when your desired return opens, cough up the $150pp and make the change; I just consider this "insurance" - particularly on hard to obtain routes/carriers.
