MAN-LHR-SAN a fortnight ago. Weather delays turned the scheduled 3 hr transfer at LHR into 25 mins. We made it to the onward flight but luggage didn't. As soon as I turned on my phone after landing in SAN there was a text from BA explaining procedure. We were each given a debit card loaded with $200 dollars to use in shops or withdraw as cash. Luggage delivered to hotel next day. Bags go astray, sometimes unavoidably. What matters is how it's handled by the carrier. Full marks to BA on this occasion.
