According to the above tv programme, that was exactly how they treated first class passengers in 1959.

They did mention how much the ticket was, and converted that into today's value.
So proud to have quickly approached the speed of sound by 1960.

Still haven't surpassed that, to/from Japan (elsewhere too, that's all gone now, pending Virgin Galactic's efforts). Certainly somewhat more comfortable though, and somewhat more efficient. Probably cheaper (in "constant dollars"); I didn't see that mentioned above, can't access the video "outside mainland China."
