I flew MIA-FPO about six or seven years ago on an ATR. They announced the flight was weight restricted due to weather conditions and were looking for volunteers to fly out the next morning.
I, and four others traveling with me, volunteered. We were told to take the bus out to the plane and the captain would make a decision once final weight & balance numbers were in. Five minutes later, we were told to board.
Turns out they removed a number of pieces of luggage to avoid bumping us -- including four people in my group (including 2 EXPs, a PLT and a GLD!)
When I got home, I wrote an email to AA seeking compensation. Instead of the usual week or so for a response, I got a reply in under 12 hours, admitting they took bags off rather than bump people and we each received 10,000 miles.
