One of the better reasons to give the pilots and FAs a 2 day layover is to make sure it doesn't create havoc on your entire system when your shooting for a C+ (80%) OT performance. that's simply going to perpetuate cascading delays throughout the global network and make an 8hr delay like the one noted the norm when combined with minimal (unrealistic) crew layovers (when you can't run an Airline focused on A type OT rates).
Not all CO FAs are 787 qualified only NTA/NLS, HTA/HOS LAI/LLS are 787 qualified. The longest CO FA layover on an international flight is 37 hours in HKG the rest are between 24 - 27 hours and some trips have 3 or 4 day layovers. Example when EWR - ARN isn't a daily trip, then we stay in ARN for 3 days before flying back to EWR. The LAX - PVG layover is 25 hrs 25 min.
