I appreciate a lot of your points about people moaning etc when things go wrong but what I am trying to say from my personal experience is that things very seldom do go wrong on mistake or promotional rates.
In my case that means nothing has gone wrong but I appreciate that at some time in the future on a numbers game one of my deals might possibly not work out at the hotels door.
Personally I think you have been very unlucky to turn up at a hotel on more than one occasion to be told your rate would not be honoured and consequently think your experience is more the exception than the rule.
I am currently staying on another great deal , this time at a 5 star hotel in Cannes ,France. Despite the bargain rate I still received a complementary bottle of the finest French Champaign on arrival.
My advice to all is have a backup plan...but go for it...you will win a substantial lot more than you will lose !
