In fact, rather than having a gaggle of folks hovering around the gate until T-10 or whatever it is that you/DL suggest, I would counter that this is more intuitive to ensuring early and orderly boarding and OTP.
It can be a problem to have people move into FC seats when the seatbelt sign goes off if the person's seat is needed for a standby. I could also imagine the late boarder who has temporary use of a FC seat deciding to try to keep it, complaining, being as slow as possible to move, etc., which would then become a problem for the FA.
