Thank you for your replies...

So the Most Significant Carrier policy only applies to airlines that have interline agreements? Since the ticket was 'owned' by Lufthansa (according to Expedia), I was told that their policy would apply.

Also, it is frustrating that even though we've flown this itinerary many times, this has never happened before...
