Why do bellmen remove all luggage tags?

Noticed the last few hotels in Europe that when bags are delivered, all the tags have been removed. Not just the checked bag tags but the ID tags with contact info as well. It's not a huge deal but more of a pet peeve. I don't like to write a new name tag for each bag on each leg/airline.

I asked the bellman today what happened to ALL the tags. He shrugged and said its for guest convenience so they don't get their hands sticky. I said the small ones with my address should stay on. He shrugged and said they usually just tear off everything. This was at the Four Seasons.
