Flying MSP-LAX-AKL outbound, then SYD-LAX-MSP inbound, at the end of the year and early next year. I had hoped to use miles to UG at least one of the international flights.

The first DL rep I spoke to indicated that I could UG on Air New Zealand flights (though I wouldn't get miles for that segment as they are not a partner). The second rep I spoke to this evening said miles could not be used for Air New Zealand flights. (Both reps were on the "Platinum" reservations line, FWIW.)

I'd probably have an easier time getting the UG if I was flying on V Australia, but those flights are considerably more expensive.

I am aware that I need M class or above to be able to upgrade with miles. If anyone has any insight on this - been able to book or not - I'd appreciate it.
