I don't agree with that percentage; when flying to Japan with coworkers almost ALL comment on how clean the planes are. It does affect the image. If your point was right, all planes would be in primer, why even paint them at all? The logos, color schemes, etc are (mostly) carefully decided, if they are trashed it is bad for the airline.

BTW, one of the spotless ANA flights I've taken was... Pokemon!
