Most cc users have a non-Amex credit card. Many merchants don't accept Amex due to the high fees. Yet, they accept every other cc. Buyers just use a Visa/MC/Disc. etc.
And I refrain from shopping at places that do not take Amex.
Look at costco members and why they only take Amex.
Amex card holders on average have a much higher income and net worth. Stupid if they do not.
Rewards are one thing, but Amex has the ultimate shopping protection out of any cards. That is enough for me. However honestly... What percentage of merchants don't take Amex ? Very very very low.
