The OP is in NYC and can't find a fax machine? Staples? Officemax? It would cost ~$1 or less.

Any office/place of business that would do you a favor?

If you must buy your ticket now before your wife's name is officially changed, just bring both sets of ID and marriage certificate when you check in to your flight.
