Seriously, we're a privileged bunch to travel. But my point of view is that if the airlines don't patrol and enforce the cabin luggage policies, don't look to those who abide by the rules to be put out of a comfortable flight by those who abuse the rules. Full stop.
There is a crack down lately in YUL, whereby supervisor raom around the gates pointing out bags that are too big or look too heavy and tell customers it must fit in the Carry-On sample luggage rack by the gate and have them tagged for the hold. I have even heard Managers as recently as last week barking into walkie talkies to Supervisors..." I need 15 bags offloaded"...they actually are almost putting a quota on each flight!
