I think it's actually much easier to have everything on an onboard server, and I'd be extremely surprised if that's not what AS is doing. The GoGo internet as it is doesn't work well enough to stream HD movies, so I'd guess that AS will have an onboard server and use something similar to the existing GoGo onboard infrastructure to stream the content to devices.
