Not wanting to go round in circles in the debate, and repeat what has already been said in several posts during a very interesting thread, I would disagree with that.

Given the always complex, and often expensive, nature of changing airline tickets booked in lower end buckets last minute; and the OP's wife's actions of changing her return flight to take advantage of the flexible nature of the new ticket; I think that Virgin would have had a reasonable case.

Having said that, as I have stated above, I am pleased common sense has prevailed, and that the OP is financially better off - rather than the lawyers on both sides, who would inevitably ensured that they were the winners if it had gone to litigation.
