To answer your question, I can confirm the above, even if you were without status you may still be given luggage allowance for whatever reasoning. I made a redemption from a non elite QF account (LAX - SFO) and was given an allowance of 2 pieces per pax.
Hi,

On AA.com they are offering flights via LAX or PHX ( now that US has joined One world). The PHX flights are more expensive than flights via LAX.

(United and virgin america would fly SFO-LAS non stop if you did not want to collect Avios)
