I've been wondering the same thing...the assumption is that everyone who steps onboard an airplane has a tablet of some sort and even if you do have a tablet, if I'm traveling as a family of 4, that means I'll need 4 tablets unless we want to flip a coin to see who gets or doesn't get the inflight entertainment.

Honestly, something like the Digiplayer really is needed...and free inflight entertainment is actually one of the perks of flying in long-haul F, but it sounds like that is going away
