If the HBO booking includes an infant, then IIRC that does include seat selection by the adult passenger. But if the HBO booking is adult and child only, then BA allocates the seats shortly before the flight.
Apologies for the ambiguity. I will be booking tickets for my wife, a toddler and a lap infant (and myself). The HBO fare is £30/ticket cheaper on the adult/child tickets and the fare difference for the lap infant is negligible.
Seat selection was my primary concern but I thought for worst case, the poor chap who is sitting in a row with a 3 yr old and 1 yr old would probably be more than willing to trade seats with me. If my wife (no status) can select a seat with the lap infant on the ticket, we should be able to find 3 seats together.
