Considering I've flown probably a thousand times and no airline has ever mentioned the contents of the cargo hold, I'm guessing they aren't obligated to do this.

Wasn't there a scene like this in the original Italian Job from the '60's? Did you notice three Mini Coopers sitting anywhere nearby?
