Almost always, nothing. Status comes naturally as part of travel that we would do anyway. I don't choose my status; it finds me.

The only exception I can think of was a year when QF stitched up my companion by effectively changing its status rules half way through a membership year. thus making it impossible for renew QF Gold. So we did a day trip to GVA to trigger BA Silver instead, for about £250 each.
