Please keep us updated on how this goes. I am not sure how much a complaint will go other than those TSA agents being told to read the rules. Not sure about the WN agent.

I am sure the situation will be spun such that as soon as you gave them the code, you gave up all your rights. If you had missed your flight because of this, any lawyer would have crucified all involved.

EDIT:
Looking at the TSA website:
Travelers should remain in the area designated by the aircraft operator or TSA representative to take the key back after the container is cleared for transportation.

WN's policy is:
Only the Customer checking the luggage should retain the key or combination to the lock. No exceptions will be made.

Not sure which policy has precedence, but I will assume the TSA.
