Once I bought some tickets far in advance YYZ-NRT, same type of ticket as the OP. Price dropped by about $400 or so per ticket. Phoned in, cancelled and paid the $200 fee, then I rebooked at the lower price.

To be honest, can't remember if I cancelled on line or by calling it, but either way, it cost me $200
