Following Oxon Flyer's saucy remark, I will prove him right and give my reaction.

The one thing that we are missing from the OP is the body language, the look on the face and the tone of voice. Everything that was said could be taken completely the wrong way and yet when delivered in a friendly tone, a pleasant smile and and agreeable countenance, it becomes something else entirely. Actually had she she said "Good to have you with us and and have a lovely flight" or some such it would have left people in no doubt. As for all the comments I would add this - no problem but you have to be aware and sensitive to the person to whom you were addressing that. The Po Faced and those on whom wit and irony would be lost then just stick to the courtesies. Some people you just know you can play with and others absolutely not. It is an art and not a science and one can get it quite wrong. I have absolutely no time for this PC nonsense that started so well and forgot that it was just really about treating others as one would be treated as well. I might add that we actually have people who prefer to fly with us because of our typically British ability to laugh at most things and answer back.

Once upon a time just as we were boarding, Your Truly in her usual clumsy manner happened to drop a large plastic bottle of water on the galley floor - it exploded and the water went all over the floor. I recall one passenger (CW as it happens) saying

"Blimey - what happened"

before I could stop myself I said

"My waters have broken"

His roar of laughter could be hear down the back - it set the tone for a flight and we had lots of laughs -a nd he infected all the people around him - they seemed to be up most of the night chatting quietly and giggling like schoolboys. We had not one complaint. (Probably they were all directed here! )

Now I would have had that GA's backside for that sort of crack - that is both rude and ugly.

OK - so much for me taking a back seat!
