Judging from the thread, it seems that Singapore Airlines does do random complimentary upgrades.
my parents got gold (the always fly together). I thought it was a system error. That was 2 years ago.
To think about it, they flew with the cheapest fare most of the time (10% mileage), but if it were 100%, that would qualify them to gold status.
Anyway, last year they really got gold on their own right.
