I think there was recent a post/thread by henkybaby somewhere on a similar issue when he had to get back quickly and BA sorted it for him.

Having had to rearrange flights approx 30 hours before departure due to a serious injury, BA can as flexible as you need them to be if the reasons are genuine. ^
