It's not a silly thing, it's a reasonable question. As to E+ availability, I base my inquiry on many flights where there's either no E+ seats left or they're only in the middle. And the food, AVOD, service, and so on don't change between E- and E+.
My last few transpac and transatlantic experiences on UA have been pretty unpleasant, especially when compared to how UA was in the 90s or how SQ or LH is now. I'm trying to avoid an 15 hour+ ordeal, so thanks to those providing constructive advice.

What basis in reality do you have to make the statement that E+ will not be available to you on this route at check in?
As a Silver though, I would evaluate the option of buying E+ in advance to assure myself of my preferred seat choice.
Why not include Virgin Australia in the mix?
What price differences are you seeing between the various options?
