I would try to resolve the matter sooner rather than later. If you wait until travel is completed and AAdvantage CS says no to your request, what other re-course will you have?
I did contact the customer service to fix the issue before writing the opening post. I was told by an agent that since the sticker upgrade cleared first I was stuck with it. So, it's not like I haven't tried this route.
