You should not have been on both lists since that is now against policy.

Regardless, yes you can go from a sticker upgrade to a miles/eVIP upgrade (agent discretion plays a role) but AA will not allow you to do the opposite. Why? Too many people were upgrading with miles/eVIP in advance to secure the space and then inside the elite upgrade window (assuming the cabin looked wide open for a sticker upgrade) would call to switch back to stickers.
