Probably trying to capture AS elites on DL who will no longer get free bags.
Unless the AS elite is willing to switch to DL SkyMiles, as far as I know the credit card makes no difference. From what I've read, your card gets associated with your SkyMiles number, and that SkyMiles number has to be in the reservation to get the benefit.
