I don't think you should be concerned about how to deal with this incident because is it really any of the business of a passenger as to what the crew member was doing given the circumstances described. As a passenger I am not on board to police the actions of the crew nor should they have to defend themselves against accusations from passengers when the full circumstances are not known and is it really any of a passengers business as to what was going on?
