What would be the rebooking offered: to/from LCY would presumably be the best option from the passenger's perspective, but KLM are about to 'lose' VLM (but maintain the codeshares on AMS-LCY, I believe). Otherwise, a change to LHR may not go down that well with the folks concerned!

If I were affected, I'd accept only LCY (VLM codeshare) or possibly LGW (BA, by re-ticketing): the whole point of travelling via MSE would have been because it is a small (i.e. friendly and hassle-free) airport close to the North of Kent.
