Does the above sound correct logistically? Does this sound like a good idea? or am I better off leaving it as a day trip and come back to HKG? Not quite sure how much time I will want to be in Macau. I'm not really in to casino and was planning to look at the major landmarks and stroll around town.
I think that it's better off for you to stay in Hong Kong and make a day trip to Macao.

There are ferry every 15 minutes throughout the day. Just go to the pier when you are ready in the morning. However, I'd recommend that you buy a return ticket on the latest sailing that you'd like to return to Hong Kong so you know that you have a seat for sure. If you decide to return earlier, they will let you standby for the earlier sailing at no charge.
