While more hotels have said they couldn't (or wouldn't) open a standard award room for me, I have had a few that did it for me. (The last one was the Grand Hotel near Mobile, AL.)

You can either call the hotel directly or ask a Plat agent to call for you. I think the few times it did work for me was when a Plat agent did the calling and asking for me.
