I have now done the BA55 in both F (last month) and UD CW on the A380 last night, and..

...F is more comfortable than the 747, seats are bigger all round, but it didn't feel as special as the nose of the 747. The temperature was cooler than I've become used to which was pleasant.

...CW on the upper deck was nothing special. The side bins are very small - I couldn't fit my laptop bag into a side bin, and the overhead bins for the A and B rows are only just big enough for a laptop bag and suitcase per person. Temperature was the usual oven like setting overnight. I had to ask for eyeshades and earplugs as these were not handed out with the (nasty cheap looking) amenity kit.

My big complaint last night was the time it took to do the dinner service, over three hours from take off to finishing my dessert, I declined the coffee and drinks to sleep, then breakfast started two hours before landing. So on an ten and a half hour flight overnight there was only five hours quiet time. The crew seemed to be running around being busy, but were still reading off the order of service checklist - I could see and hear into the galley from my seat. I had read in other threads that the meal service on early flights last year had taken a long time, but hoped that this would have improved over the last few months, but sadly not. There was no consistency in the people serving a particular area - each piece of service delivery - amenity bags, menu, drinks run, started, main course etc seemed to be done by a different member of the crew.

The AVOD at my seat was already broken, and the whole system was reset during the night for some reason. No change over a 20 year old 747 there then

The aircraft is very quiet - which is not altogether a good thing as the cabin noises that would be drowned out in a 747 can be clearly heard. So if you want to eat in the lounge before the flight you may find it difficult to sleep due to the noise. You may find it even harder to sleep if the crew cannot find the stash of eyeshades and earplugs. Its also very smooth, I felt less bounced around than on a 747 or 777. The seats are more robust as the whole unit didn't shake when the other person moved around. Those middle coffin seats look horrible.

There are only three toilets for CW on the upper deck - so there are more people per toilet than on any other BA plane in CW - expect to wait when you need to go. The two toilets at the front of the cabin are huge - you could have a reasonable sized party in there. You cannot go downstairs and use the F toilets because the stairs are roped off.

Why hasn't BA built a lounge in T5C - they have their largest aircraft leaving from this building, with the most premium passengers but the lounge offering is still under construction. Was it a surprise to BA or Heathrow that the A380 could only use T5C???
