WN is Southwest. It is the official code for them via the FAA(hope not to translate that as well). They don't come up with it, it is assigned. You can look up the history of why, if your bored. HP was the old amecica west code pre merger.

All airlines get a code UA, AA, F9 ect.

You should always know the two letter code for the airlines that you fly......
