Google maps would let you search distances/estimated time through a few different mediums, by foot and by rail included. You can add multiple locations per itinerary too.

As for other apps, not too sure. In fact, I don't like google maps - every update to the interface seems unnecessary to me - but what would you generally use, xolinlevh?
