Not boarding a flight halfway through a reward flight

From what I've read, you can get a away from not boarding your last segment on a reward ticket. What I am wondering is if I don't board my last segment on my "to" flights, am I taking a big chance that Aeroplan might cancel my return flight?

As it stands now, I have a mini-RTW and after my stopover in Hong Kong I have a segment of HKG-TPE, TPE-NRT (next day) on Eva Air.

While I found a same day HKG-NRT, the change fees (three of us) plus the added fuel charges/taxes makes it way too expensive. I wanted to not board this flight then I can use my Avios points for a same day flight on Cathay.

However, my return to Canada is a DPS-TPE, TPE-YYZ (next day) again on Eva Air. While I'm sure I can call Aeroplan after not boarding the HKG-TPE flight and say something came up that made us miss the flight, I am worried Aeroplan and/or Eva Air will cancel our segment home.

I understand change fees are part of the game but I unloaded all my Aeroplan points for these flights knowing I wasn't going to invest in them again and giving them $300 to do nothing but drop two flights stings.

Anyhow, just looking for any experience and advice similar to this scenario. Much appreciated.
