I'd say it was in fact the most helpful comment so far. The OP is making the assumption that somehow finding a way to compress will solve the problem. That might be one way but packing less is another alternative is it not?

The OP has admitted that, "But I am always cramming it to the hilt to make everything fit". That to me is just another way of saying, 'I'm packing too much stuff'. His bag fits the dimensions of 22x14x9 when not 'crammed', so why not stop cramming it?
