Country Inn & Suites, Atlanta Airport South review

Hi, I'm doing a MR at the CIS ATL South to get the points for the 3nights get 1 night free (38k points) The address is:
5100 West Fayetteville Road
College Park, GA 30349

The location is about 5-7 minute drive from ATL airport, but they do offer a 24hr shuttle. Upon arrival at the hotel, the sign outside indicated that is was recently renovated and it is under new management. The outside area looks ok, nothing special to comment, there are a couple of gas stations nearby and a restaurant too. I'm not sure what they meant by renovated, but a quick look outside does not indicate much, no fresh paint, no new windows, landscaping, signage, etc.

I was not greeted as GLD member, nor did I received a welcome gift in the room. The 2 front desk clerk where extremely friendly! And they handed a sheet for a local pizza place if I wanted to order pizza. Typical CIS layout, but it did not looked renovated to me at all. I was assigned a room in the second floor, a little bit away from the elevator. I passed the ice machine and vending machine area and there was a stench coming from the garbage can, someone's leftover meal, but it was eventually taken away.

The room was standard, there where some stains in the carpeting. Sheets where clean, with the typical duvet they use. Bathroom could use some update, but it was clean also. Towels where kinda raggy. The a/c immediately cool off the room and it was not noisy. My room was on top of the main entrance, overlooking the atrium. There was the external a/c unit right next to the window, but it was not noisy at all. You could open the window completely and jump out to the atrium, as I can see by all the cigarette butts that where scattered all over the area, along with the 2 bottles of Colt 45.

There is not much within walking distance in the area, unless you have a car. The hotel has a local restaurant, called Genesis Bar & Grill, which had some good reviews so I gave it a try. It was actually really good, it's a burger/Korean joint, moderately priced with an average beer selection. The free breakfast buffet is your typical CIS fare, nothing special to comment

Overall, most of the hotels in this price range will be about the same. You can pay more for a better area. Service was excellent, no problems with the stay but this is certainly not where I will bring my family for a stay.
